STEEVAN MARS
IF NOT NOW…WHEN?
Singer/songwriter/guitarist, STEEVAN MARS writes catchy-edgy-melody driven pop songs with classic rock undertones. Mars’ musical style draws from influences across the rock map from 60’s British invasion to 70’s LA rock to 80’s/90’s Alternative. Steevan was formerly the lead singer with studio-alternative/rock band, Joyseed, where he sharpened his songwriting skills, showing early on that he had a strong sense of melody and chord progression -without taking a single music class and only a few guitar lessons. Joyseed recorded more than 20 songs - most of which were Mars’ originals. Always one to write about matters of the heart - Steevan’s lyrics are always personal and universal, coming from the core of his soul, causing one to ponder - is he singing about me? This latest collection of songs such as, Long Time and Fall Away, are no different -they really have that feeling that he is in tune with the everyday emotions that go with love and loss.
His debut EP, If Not Now…When? refers to the long, arduous journey of an artist trying to find a way to fit into this world. Cramming in full day recording sessions at PalisadeStudios in Weehawken while working 50 hour work weeks, the new songs started to take shape, thanks to Producer, Scott Kammerer - after 6 months, the EP was finished. Currently, Steevan is on an acoustic tour slowly promoting the record and picking up fans along the way. He’s a regular at the 169 Bar in NYC and Blend, Ridgewood, NJ, and has performed at the Knitting Factory, Kenny’s Castaways, CBGB’s and other notable NYC venues. This Morristown, New Jersey-based singer-songwriter is a dynamic performer who connects with his fans. And let’s not forget the songs - just a bunch of great songs - and more to come….He was recently a featured artist at the NY Songwriters Circle, where he showcased his original works at the legendary Bitter End in NYC. His song, Long Time was a notable mention in their 2007 songwriting contest.
In February, he was a finalist in the Morristown’s Got Talent showcase where he performed his critically acclaimed single, “ Long Time” to a packed house at the Community Theater in Morristown (go to myspace.com/steevanmusic for the video clip).
In the past 2 years, he’s been a runner-up in many songwriting contests including a battle of the bands song contest sponsored by 106.3 FM at the Jersey shore where 100’s of fans voted on line for his song Life’s Too Short to Feel Nothing. His songs have recently been chosen to be on Universal Republic and Noteborn Music publishing catalogs and his CD can be found on CdBaby and iTunes. The question now is, if not now, when will Steevan Mars’ go National??
